Today we are talking about the CBI Officer salary. In this, we will discuss the exam process, eligibility, exam cut off, training, job profile, salary and promotion. The term CBI stands for Central Bureau of Investigation.
Before starting with the topic let’s just take a few questions or some kind of assumption that a candidate is having about CBI. People think that they get directly appointed to the post but that’s not the truth.
You are not appointed for Inspector post directly. Firstly you have to join CBI after that you are appointed as a Sub- Inspector and after that as an Inspector.
In previous times the grade pay is Rs. 4,200/- but now the grade pay increase to Rs. 4,600/-. It is a non- Gazetted Post, it does not require any official uniform it’s a non- uniform post, that means you can wear whatever you want too.
In the CBI there are seven division where you can get posted. The division are as follows:-
- Anti-corruption division
- Economic offense division
- Special crime division
- Directorate of prosecution
- Administration division
- Policy and coordination division

CBI Officer Qualification/ Eligibility
The qualification required for CBI Officer is as follows:-
You need to give the exam of SSC CGL that means staff selection commission at combine graduate level. The exam conducts once a year, and the application will apply online on the website of SSC.
The fee structure, while you fill the form, is always the same which means the fee for general and Other Backward Class candidates is Rs. 100 and for Scheduled Cast/ Schedule Tribes/ Physical Disable and Female the fee is exempted.
You have completed your graduation in any of the streams. Your age also matters to fill up the application. Your age must be lies in between 20 to 30 years or there is age relaxation for Scheduled Cast/ Schedule Tribes/ Ex-Service Man and other backward class.

There are some physical standards for the post of Sub- Inspector in a central bureau of investigation (CBI) which is as follows:-
- For Men:- 165 cms
- For Female:- 150 cms (height relaxable for hillsmen and tribals:- 5cms
- Chest:- 76 cms with expansion only for male candidates
- Vision:- Eyesight with or without glass
- Distant vision:- 6/ 6 in one 6/ 9 in the other eyes.
- Near vision:- 0.6 in one and 0.8 in the other eyes.
CBI Officer Exam Process
Now it’s time to take our discussion towards exam structure. So, in the exam, there are four stages. And the candidate has to crack all the levels to get the job.
The exam is a CBT (Computer Based Test) based. Each question carries 2 marks. There will be negative marking in the exam if you choose the wrong option, and the mark minus for paper is 0.5 on each wrong answer. The stages are as follows:-
- The preliminary exam also is known as tier 1
- Mains exam is also called tier 2
- Descriptive exam
- Skill test and documentation
The 1 stage/ tier 1/ preliminary exam is having 100 question which is of 200 marks, and the time allotted to the candidates to give the exam is only 1 hour.

Now, it’s time for tier two/ Mains Exam/ Stage 2. The stage two consist only two subjects. It contains 300 questions of 400 marks. The time allotted to the candidates is 2 hours for each subject.
The marks divided to each question in Quantitative aptitude is of 02 marks each and while saying about English 01 mark each question. There is a break after you complete one paper the break is of 2 hours.

Tier 3/ Stage 3/ Descriptive Test:- The test is of 100 marks. The time allotted towards paper is 1 hour. The medium is English/ Hindi. This pen and paper mode this is not CBT.
Tier 4/ Stage 4/ skill test and documentation/ final stage under this you need to give two kinds of paper so one is CPT (Computer Proficiency Test) and the other one is DEST (Data Entry Skill Test).
CPT is for assistant section officer (CSS, MEA, SFIO, GSI, MINES). The time duration allotted toward this test is 1 hour. The test is going to hold on word processing (DEST) which is 2,000 key depression in 15 minutes (27 WPM).
DEST is for assistant in CBEC and CBTD. The time allotted towards test is 15 minutes. Both the exam are not important for the CBI but it is good to give it, to not face problem in future.

CBI Inspector Cut- Off
So, it’s time to check the cut-off of every tier or each level. we will talk about the general cut- off of other posts, cut- off of AAO, cut- off of JSO. Cut- off in 2017. Always make sure that you score more than the cut- off so that you never face any difficulty in future.

The final score is something like this:- T1 (200)+ T2 (400)+ T3 (100)= 700 in this will we not join T4 marks because it is not important for the viewpoint of CBI.

After the selection in CBI now it’s time for training. The training starts at CBI Academy, Ghaziabad. It will be divided into 2 phases.
Phase 1:- classroom training for 22 weeks in the week you will learn about all the things which are related to your job.
Phase 2:- Under this, the training is for 10 to 11 weeks and the mode of learning will be advance with theory and fieldwork information.
