GROWTH AND PROMOTION IN INDIAN AIR FORCE
The growth and promotion of AIF will be based on two types as you can see in the above diagram. The promotion of the wing commander is based on seniority merit. A flying branch officer will eligible for the rank of group captain is after completing 16 years of service. The ground officer duty (non -flyers) will rank after 18 years of service as a captain. They will face promotion board NO.1 which is presided over by the Air Officer in Charge Personnel (AOP). Then the promotions of the rank of Air Commodore and Air Vice Marshal come under No. 2 Promotion Board of which the Vice Chief is the presiding officer. All suggestion of the Promotion Boards (1 and 2) are put for acceptance to the Ministry of Defence, which has the last say in all the matters of promotion.
